§ 26-3. Courthouse security assessment fee.

  • (a)

    There is hereby imposed an assessment as part of the cost in each criminal case or traffic case in the general district, juvenile and domestic relations district and circuit courts pursuant to section 53.1-120 of the 1950 Code of Virginia as amended.

    (b)

    The clerk of each such court shall collect said assessment on each criminal and traffic case heard. The clerk shall remit said assessment to the treasurer of the city. The treasurer shall hold said sum separate from all other funds subject to appropriation by the city council for the city the sheriff's office for the city for the funding of courthouse security personnel.

    (c)

    The amendment to the enabling statute, section 53.1-3 of the Code of Virginia, permitting the raising of this fee per case becoming effective on July 1, 2007, this section shall become effective on July 1, 2007.
